# Add local photos with descriptive alt text

Search engines and customers both use photos to confirm that a local business actually works in the area. Add photos of completed jobs, the team and the premises to the matching service or area page, compress them, and write alt text that names the service and place without keyword stuffing. Keep the newest photos on the page and remove stock images that could belong to any business.

## Prerequisites

- Access to real job or premises photos
- The service or area pages where the photos belong

## Steps

1. **Collect real local photos** *(general best practice)* — Gather completed jobs, the team and the premises from the last year. Reject stock images and photos without permission; note the service and place for each.
Check: Every selected photo has a service and a location recorded next to it.
2. **Place photos on matching pages** *(general best practice)* — Add each photo to the service or area page it proves. Put the strongest job photo near the top and keep the rest in the body, not in a separate gallery.
Check: Each service page shows at least one photo that depicts that service.
3. **Write descriptive alt text** — Describe the service and place in one sentence, for example 'Completed bathroom renovation in Riverside'. Do not repeat the same keyword across every image.
Check: The rendered img tags carry alt text that names the service or place, and no two images share identical alt text.
4. **Compress and check the crawl** — Serve compressed modern formats with width and height set, then crawl the pages to confirm alt attributes and no layout shift.
Check: Lighthouse reports no missing alt attributes and CLS below 0.1 on the service template.
