# Match content to search intent

Search intent decides the page format. Informational queries need a direct answer and clear sections, commercial queries need comparisons and pricing, transactional queries need product details above the fold. Classify top queries from the SERP, then restructure rather than rewriting when the topic is right.

## Prerequisites

- Search Console query data
- Access to page templates

## Steps

1. **Classify the top queries** *(general best practice)* — For each priority page, list its top queries and look at the SERP. Record the dominant result type and the format users expect.
Check: Each page has a documented intent label and the dominant SERP result type.
2. **Compare the page format** *(general best practice)* — Check whether the page delivers that format: direct answer, comparison table, product details. Note the gap between the page and the SERP.
Check: Each gap is recorded as a concrete structural change, not a generic rewrite note.
3. **Restructure and measure** — Move the expected format to the top of the page, keep the URL, and compare clicks and impressions after four weeks.
Check: CTR for the restructured page improves at a similar average position.
