# Monitor index coverage in Search Console

The Page indexing report groups URLs by status and reason. Review it weekly, sample each reason, and separate intentional exclusions from regressions. Track counts over time instead of reacting to a single spike, and use URL Inspection to confirm individual cases before changing code.

## Prerequisites

- Verified Search Console property

## Steps

1. **Export the Page indexing report** — Open Indexing, then Pages. Export each status and reason, and note the template each URL belongs to.
Check: The export contains a reason column and at least one sample URL per template.
2. **Classify exclusions as intended or not** *(general best practice)* — Mark reasons that match your URL policy as intended. Flag reasons on templates that should be indexed, such as product or article pages.
Check: Every exclusion reason has an intended/regression label and an owner.
3. **Confirm one case before changing code** — Run URL Inspection on a flagged URL to see the selected canonical and any blocker. Fix the template rather than individual URLs.
Check: The inspected URL shows the same reason as the report and the cause is documented.
