# Programmatic SEO for Niche Job Boards: Templated Pages at Scale

Generate templated listing pages from structured job data so every role-and-location combination has a crawlable URL, then invest in the technical SEO underneath it. Unique titles built from template fields, internal links from hub pages, fast list and detail templates and clean indexation are what turn the template set into rankings. The tactic transfers to any niche with repeating structured records; without that technical layer the generated pages stay thin.

## Prerequisites

- Structured job/listing dataset with consistent fields (title, location, category, employer)
- Server-side or static rendering so page content appears in the initial HTML
- Access to Google Search Console for the property
- CMS or codebase able to generate pages from a template at scale

## Steps

1. **Define the page taxonomy** *(general best practice)* — List the dimensions your inventory actually supports — e.g. job title × location, title × industry, title × seniority. For each combination count how many live listings exist. Only combinations above a minimum inventory threshold become published pages; the rest stay out of the index.
Check: You have a written list of every page template and a count of qualifying pages per template.
2. **Build indexable URLs and render content server-side** *(general best practice)* — Generate a clean, stable URL pattern per template (e.g. /jobs/{title}/{location}). Ensure the listing content, headings and pagination links are present in the HTML response, not injected only after client-side JavaScript runs.
Check: Fetch a sample URL with curl (no JS) and confirm listings, H1 and internal links appear in the raw response.
3. **Generate unique titles, H1s and meta descriptions** *(general best practice)* — Derive title tags, H1s and meta descriptions from the data fields rather than using one generic template string. Include the specific title and location, and add live-listing counts or salary signals where the data exists.
Check: Crawl 20 sample pages and confirm zero duplicate title tags or H1s across them.
4. **Wire internal links and hub pages** *(general best practice)* — Connect generated pages through category and location hub pages plus related-links blocks, so no page is orphaned and every page sits within a few clicks of the homepage.
Check: A full crawl reports no orphan URLs and maximum click depth of three from the homepage.
5. **Segment XML sitemaps by template** *(general best practice)* — Emit separate sitemaps per page type (titles, locations, individual listings) with lastmod values, reference them from a sitemap index, and submit in Search Console so indexing can be tracked per group.
Check: Search Console shows each sitemap submitted and reports discovered vs indexed counts per group.
6. **Gate thin and empty combinations** *(general best practice)* — Return noindex or a 404/410 for template pages below the inventory threshold, and remove them from sitemaps so crawl budget is spent on pages that can rank.
Check: Search Console shows no soft 404s or 'crawled - currently not indexed' spikes on gated templates.
7. **Monitor performance by page group** *(general best practice)* — In Search Console, filter Performance reports by page path pattern to compare impressions, clicks and CTR per template. Expand templates that earn impressions; prune or merge those that do not.
Check: You can produce a per-template impressions and clicks report for the last month.
