# Set up a Google Business Profile

Google Business Profile is the primary source for local pack and Maps data. Claim and verify the listing, choose the most specific primary category, and keep name, address, hours, phone and website accurate. Add real photos, answer questions and respond to reviews without incentives.

## Prerequisites

- A real business location or service area
- A Google account for the owner

## Steps

1. **Claim and verify the listing** — Search for the business on Google Maps, claim the profile and complete verification. Do not create a duplicate listing if one already exists.
   Check: The profile dashboard shows the listing as verified and owned by the business.
2. **Set the specific category and details** — Choose the most specific primary category, add real secondary categories, and fill address or service area, hours, phone and website.
   Check: The profile shows one primary category, at least one secondary category and complete hours.
3. **Publish photos and monitor edits** — Upload recent exterior, interior and team photos. Review suggested edits and questions weekly, and respond to new reviews.
   Check: The profile has at least five recent photos and no unanswered questions older than seven days.
