# Structure page sections so AI models can lift and cite them

Rewrite content pages so each section leads with the direct answer, stands alone without the paragraph above it, names concrete entities instead of vague pronouns, and keeps one idea per sentence. This makes passages easy for AI assistants to extract and quote, and easier for skimming readers at the same time.

## Prerequisites

- Edit access to the page content or templates
- A list of pages you want AI assistants to cite

## Steps

1. **Pick the pages worth restructuring** *(general best practice)* — Choose the pages that answer buyer questions or define terms, since those are the passages an assistant can quote. Start with one page and use it as the pattern for the rest.
Check: A short list of target URLs exists, each with the question it should answer.
2. **Rewrite each section to lead with the answer** — Open every section with the direct answer in the first sentence, then add context and caveats after it. Move any background paragraph that currently sits above the answer to below it.
Check: The first sentence under each H2 answers the heading's question without needing the next sentence.
3. **Make every section stand alone** — Read each H2 and its paragraph in isolation. If it needs the section above to make sense, restate the missing subject or context inside the section itself.
Check: Copying a single section into a blank document still produces a readable, complete answer.
4. **Replace vague references with named entities** *(general best practice)* — Swap phrases like "this tool" or "it" for the concrete product, company or concept, and state the relationship explicitly.
Check: A grep of the page for "this tool", "it helps" and "the platform" returns no ambiguous instances in the rewritten sections.
5. **Split sentences to one idea each** — Break multi-clause sentences so each carries a single claim. If a sentence needs two reads, split it in two.
Check: Every rewritten sentence contains a single main clause and no more than one conjunction joining independent claims.
6. **Refresh the page before republishing** *(general best practice)* — Update the content with current details and expose a visible last-updated date so the edit is verifiable.
Check: The page shows a current last-updated date and the changed sections are live in the rendered HTML.
7. **Recheck the rendered page** *(general best practice)* — Load the published URL and confirm the new structure survived the CMS and any page builder.
Check: View-source of the live URL shows answer-first paragraphs directly under each H2 and the updated date element.
