# Triage SEO wins by impact versus effort before shipping fixes

A link-only post pointing to a list of high-impact SEO wins without naming any. The transferable habit it points at is triage: collect candidate fixes from your audit and Search Console data, score each by expected impact and effort, and ship the highest-scoring items first instead of working through a checklist in arbitrary order.

## Prerequisites

- A crawl or audit export of candidate issues (CSV)
- Search Console access for impressions, clicks and position by page
- A rough sense of which templates and pages carry commercial value

## Steps

1. **Export your candidate issues** *(general best practice)* — Pull the current list of known problems into one CSV: crawl errors, missing or duplicated titles, thin pages, broken internal links, pages with impressions but no clicks, and any flagged template-level problems. Keep one row per issue and note which URL pattern or template it affects.

Columns: `issue`, `template_or_url`, `pages_affected`, `evidence` (crawl report, GSC query, manual check).
Check: Open the CSV and confirm every row has a non-empty `evidence` value; rows without evidence get deleted, not guessed.
2. **Attach impact signals from Search Console** *(general best practice)* — For each issue, join the affected URLs to their Search Console performance over the last 90 days (impressions, clicks, average position). Sum impressions and clicks per issue so you can see which fixes sit on pages that already have demand.
Check: Every issue row shows a numeric impressions total; issues affecting zero-impression pages are visibly identified.
3. **Score impact and effort** *(general best practice)* — Assign each issue an impact score (1-5) driven by the impressions and commercial value it touches, and an effort score (1-5) driven by how many templates, pages and QA cycles the fix needs. Compute a priority score such as `impact * 2 - effort` so high-impact, low-effort items float to the top.
Check: Sort the file by priority score and sanity-check the top five: you should be able to explain each one to a stakeholder in a sentence.
4. **Ship the top items and re-measure** *(general best practice)* — Create a ticket per top item, ship it, and record the ship date in the same file. After the re-crawl window, compare Search Console data for the affected URLs against the pre-ship baseline.
Check: Every shipped item has a ship date and a before/after impressions figure, or an explicit note that no change was observed.
