Run internal-link outreach
Existing pages already pass authority. Find pages that link to outdated, thin or competing resources and ask their owners to point the link at your stronger page. Mine unlinked brand mentions as a second source. Send a short personalised email that names the page and the replacement, then follow up once and track replies.
Why this matters
Point old links at the better page before writing new content.
Before you start
- A list of pages worth linking to
- Backlink data or the Search Console links report
How to apply it
Choose the replacement pages General best practice
List the pages that should receive links: current guides, comparison pages and money pages with clear canonical URLs. Note the older URLs each one replaces.
Check: Each target page returns 200 and has a self-referencing canonical.
Find pages linking to weaker URLs General best practice
Use a backlink tool or the Search Console links report to list external pages linking to outdated, thin or competing URLs, and keep only followable editorial links.
Check: The list has at least 20 linking pages with the exact source and target URL.
Mine unlinked brand mentions General best practice
Search for the brand and product names, then record pages that mention the brand without linking. Treat these as warm prospects.
Check: The mention list records the page URL, the sentence and whether it already links.
Send and follow up once General best practice
Email the page owner with the source URL, the replacement URL and one sentence on why it is better. Follow up once after seven days and log the reply.
Check: Every contact has a sent date, a follow-up date and an outcome in the tracker.
This happens outside your codebase
Work through the steps above on the named site or dashboard, then record the result in your agent session. There is no repository edit for this tip.

Framework notes
nextjs-app
Pages live under `app/`; confirm the canonical URL in `metadata.alternates.canonical` before requesting a replacement link.
static-html
Each page is a file with a hand-written `<link rel="canonical">`; use the canonical URL, not the file path, in outreach.
